Ralph Waldo Emerson said that for “Every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness” A thought that has transcended the years even centuries but was an avant guard thought at the time. One I try to heed well.
Although not an angry person by nature I have my moments so when someone nearly takes off my mirror when over-taking my car I just have to remind myself of this saying – I don’t have too many minutes left and I certainly don’t want to waste them on negativity!
Along the same lines, I while reading “Real Estate Riches” by Dolph de Roos I had to agree when he said “Laugh and the world smiles with you. Snore and you snore alone!”
It certainly works, I often smile at strangers in the street or say “Hi!” and invariabley get a smile back. I know that is not exactly what he meant but it is a starting point and I have noticed a pleasant shift generally to people being nicer to each other. I think the whole Social Media thing is to thank for that. If you’re nasty it sure gets spread around quickly and can’t be swept under the proverbial carpet can it?
Dan Harris has also found his way to being 10% happier with a bit of meditation. He found it rather unwittingly but after much interviewing of aficionados of meditation he has found that he can un-jumble himself with a few minutes a day of being mindful of the moment. So I’m basically back where I started…. don’t waste the minutes they add up to hours so lets all be happier people maybe not quite as extreme as the video below but it sure shows how joyfulness is contagious!
Till the next contagious moment, go well
