Summer is here and I love sitting on my patio
Unfortnately the mosquitoes also like to hang out there waiting for a sniff of co2 from me. I believe that is what attracts them and as I can’t stop breathing I have to find another way.
So as all good internet users I ‘Googled” it and bingo tons of help.
I grabbed my Mama (she’s the real gardener in the family) and off to the nursery we went to buy:
Citronella a beautiful clumping grass that smells strongly an so keeps mosquitoes from being attracted to me!! It’s easy to grow, but it can be very tall 5 or 6 feet high! Best grow citronella in pots.
Lemon Balm is very hardy plant, it resists drought, and it grows well even in shade. Great I often forget to water 😦
An added bonus, I can make a delicious herbal tea!
Basil! Who knew that my favourite culinary herb is also a mosquito repellent!
I love lavender and have it now in a nice sunny spot not too far from my sitting area. But did you know that it makes a delicious herbal tea, and when indoors, fills a home with a calming aroma? Added bonus!
Bugs hate the smell and taste of peppermint, Fine by me I love both.
Make sure to add some garlic to your flower bed or vegetable garden for added protection! Again multi purpose plant
And another is Rosemary it even attracts butterflies!
Snip a few springs off add extra flavour to your lamb or steak!
Finally, one of my favourite plants has got to be Geranium a beautiful flower as well as a very useful bug repellent!
So now my garden is planted out, looking and smelling fantastic! Now I’m putting them all to the test as the mosquitoes try to take me away!! But at least I shouldn’t need that asphyxiating bug spray any more!
I’m going ‘au natural’, till the next time!
